Police warning over counterfeit pesticides

Dangerous counterfeit pesticides are being illegally imported into the country, Suffolk police have warned.

Counterfeiters are using well-known brand names including Granstar, Harmony, Score, Reglone, Gaucho, Prestige, Raxil and Nurelle.

These counterfeit pesticides are then distributed to unsuspecting farmers who believe the pesticides to be genuine.

The chemicals that are being distributed are untested, unsafe and potentially hazardous, said a police spokesman.

Pesticides are believed to be packaged and sold as genuine products to farmers.

“There are obvious health risks to farmers applying or storing the counterfeit pesticides,” said the police spokesman.

“Do not purchase other than from your usual regular reputable sources and if in doubt contact the manufacturer directly to verify the source.”
