EAST Anglian growers are set to profit from a £1 million investment in expanded and improved farm-saved seed processing facilities.

The investment has been made by Masstock SMART Farming Master Seeds in additional static and mobile processing capacity with state-of-the-art seed cleaning and treatment equipment.

Richard Lawrence, the company’s national seed manager, said the aim was to match growers’ requirements for ever-wider and more complex variety and seed treatment combinations for cereals, pulses and oilseeds.

“We cater for a truly awesome combination of varieties and seed treatments these days so our local agronomists and growers can fine-tune their crop production for the greatest value and we do this to increasingly tight deadlines while maintaining premium quality.”

To keep up with demand, Masstock has added a extra finished seed storage capacity, boosted its processing capacity and flexibility and installed a specialist colour sorter – as well as upgrading its East Anglian Master Seeds network.

“At the same time, we’ve added an extra brand new, self-contained and powered mobile unit to our national seed processing fleet to expand the parallel top quality on-farm seed cleaning and treatment service we provide.”

Continued investment in the quality and maintenance of static and mobile equipment ensured modern, low dose seed treatments were applied with the accuracy and consistency essential to their cost-effectiveness, said Mr Lawrence.

“It also allows us to operate our plant to extended round-the-clock schedules with the greatest possible reliability to process to order for growers throughout East Anglia with the shortest possible turn-round times.”
