SEED specialists from across the country saw the latest genetic material used by plant breeders during a visit to Nickerson’s wheat centre at Woolpit, Suffolk.
The visit – by Nickerson Direct specialists who supply seed directly from breeder to farmers – were able were able to study varieties in the field, find out about competitor varieties and hear developing trends in the global wheat market.
Alastair Moore, who manages the team of seed specialists, said information from the visit would be passed on to customers. “Farmers who consistently achieve good results recognised the value of investing in quality seeds.”
Nickerson supplies a range of seeds and dressings, including Original Cereals, oilseeds and pulses, Circle Ley grass mixtures, LG maize and Foundation potatoes, together with a number of complimentary products.
Bill Angus, the company’s senior wheat breeder, said: “While many other companies increasingly rely on selling to customers over the phone, Nickerson Direct has taken a different approach.
“It operates the UK’s only national team of seed specialists who visit farmers all over the country advising them face-to-face on all aspects of cropping and delivering informed expert advice.”
As part of Group Limagrain, the largest seed company in Europe, Nickerson Direct was uniquely positioned to offer farmers the full advantages of its huge resources, research and development, Mr Nickerson claimed.
