Grain company Nidera has launched a harvest 2011 buy-back contract for newly-recommended Group 3 soft wheat Warrior.

A premium of £5/tonne over feed wheat will add extra marketing security to the variety which Nidera said stood out for its combination of yield and production security, courtesy of exceptional disease and pest resistance.

“Although Warrior is not yet officially rated for export, flour milling experts in Spain – one of our key European markets – believe it has just the attributes they need,” said Nidera seed manager Russell Frost.

There was no doubt about Warrior’s export potential as well as its suitability for domestic milling customers, he added. “They’ve been particularly impressed by the variety’s alveograph profile, gluten quality and flour yield.”

The buy-back contract would provide customers with the volumes of the type of wheat they required, while encouraging farmers to grow for a market rather than focusing only on hard feed wheats.
