Big M boasts fuel efficient engine

Krone has added a new model to its Big M range of self-propelled mowers which reduces fuel consumption and engine wear while on the road.

Unlike hydrostatic engines, the 400hp Mercedes-Benz engine on the Big M 400 matches engine revs to the relevant ground speed and work load. This is particularly useful when the mower is at traffic lights, junctions or in traffic queues.

“With fuel costs an ever increasing proportion of a farmer or contractor’s variable costs, fuel-efficient machinery is a real help” said Marcus Oliver, Krone UK’s Managing Director.

“The Big M range is known for its high work rates, even in dense crop and on slopes, thanks to the powerful engines, so improved fuel efficiency make it a very effective machine.”

The machine has an improved cooling system which takes cleaner air from the top of the unit and reverses fan direction to remove debris and dust. This protects the engine from over-heating and reduces cleaning downtime.

Also featured is a heavy duty mower bed with auto-reset system. This protects neighbouring discs when encountering an obstacle, as well as stopping and raising the disc that has been impacted. The bearing housing can be replaced within minutes.

Operator comfort has been improved by a restyled, spacious and air conditioned cab with all controls easy to reach and the use of a joystick for mower functions as well as an easy touch display screen for other functions.

The Big M 400 is available from £245,910.
