MORE than 600 potential buyers turned out to a machinery auction at Park Farm, Kimberley, near Wymondham, Norfolk.

Buyers from as far a field as Ireland and the Ukraine turned out and bidding proved highly competitive. Star lot at the Brown & Co sale was a 2002 Claas Lexion 480 which fetched £70,000.

The joint sale, held on behalf of Coston Hall Farms and Kimberley Farms, featured over 290 lots. It came about due to the reorganisation of the business and formation of Yare Valley Farming – a joint venture offering contracting services.

Key lots included a 2006 John Deere 7920 which fetched £40,000 while the 2004 John Deere 7820 went for £35,500. A Claas Challenger 55 fetched £33,800, while a 1995 John Deere 8400 eventually fell to the auctioneer’s hammer for £24,200.

Other major lots included a Vaderstadt Super XL Trailed Drill, which reached £15,000, and a 1990 Massey Ferguson 38 Combine which sold for £12,500.

The sale included an entry of vintage equipment from Messrs Harrison of Brandon Parva. This included a 1966 Dutra D4K which sold for £3,550 and a 1940 Caterpillar D4 Crawler which fetched £2,500.

“We had a tremendous turnout and plenty of competitive bidding,” said auctioneer Simon Wearmouth. “This sale demonstrates better than ever the current buoyant demand for well presented quality machinery.”

Brown & Co’s next farm machinery auction is in Brigg, North Lincolnshire, on 15 May.
