MACHINERY maker Vaderstad has upgraded its range of cultivators and drills to increase capacity and versatility.

Several new features have been introduced on the Vaderstad Rapid, Spirit and Seed Hawk drill range and the TopDown and Carrier cultivators. The machines will be exhibited at next month’s Cereals 2010 event.

The Spirit 600S XL is a standard 6m machine but with 160 litre extra hopper capacity, increasing it to 3,900 litres. New twin metering units and distribution heads will allow half-machine shut-off from the tractor cab for the XL.

Standard 4m and 6m Spirits have a new mechanical half-machine shut-off that consists of a turnable lid on the distributer head.

Additional upgrades on all Spirit models include a new packer wheel behind each double disc. The rubber is softer, giving the same weight in consolidation but higher elasticity and flexibility, enabling it to run cleaner in wet conditions.

A major change to the 6m and 8m Rapid range of air drills for 2010 is the new Interactive Depth Control that allows seed depth to be controlled from the cab. Seed Hawk also sees several new features to improve performance, including an option for larger wheels (19.0/45-17 with cleats instead of 400/60-15.5 with ribs).

Variable leg-pressure and new twin-tungsten tipped fertiliser coulters are also an option for this year. A new oil cooler is standard on all Seed Hawks.

The main optional upgrade to Vaderstad’s TopDown and Carrier cultivators is a unique rubber packer roller that gives the same degree of consolidation as the steel roller, but is primarily designed for loose, puffy soils.

The profile gives it a low rolling resistance and leaves a better surface structure on light soils.
